Retail tomato prices declined 22.4 per cent month-on-month on improved supplies across the country, the Consumer Affairs Ministry said on Sunday. The all-India average retail price of tomatoes stood at Rs 52.35 per kg on November 14, down from Rs 67.50 per kg on October 14, according to an official statement.

Inflation in potato stood at 60.01%, pulses saw 35.56% and vegetables were 12.94%. Sugar category rose by 22.30% from 16.07% of the previous month.
As per Crisil, food inflation is expected to come down if the monsoon season is indeed favourable. A good monsoon means that food production in India will increase which will erase the pains of past two years’ droughts. Food prices, on the back of better production, will hence come down.
