Wholesale inflation, or WPI, rose to 0.79% in May
Inflation in potato stood at 60.01%, pulses saw 35.56% and vegetables were 12.94%. Sugar category rose by 22.30% from 16.07% of the previous month.
The wholesale price index for May 2016, came at 0.79% compared to 0.34% in April. WPI, in April last year was a negative 2.20%.
Wholesale inflation in food articles stood at 7.88% as against 4.23% in April—highest since January 2016. Only onions among food articles saw a decline in wholesale inflation, at negative 21.70%.
Inflation in potato stood at 60.01%, pulses saw 35.56% and vegetables were 12.94%. Sugar category rose by 22.30% from 16.07% of the previous month.
However, manufacturing products which holds 65% weight-age, rose marginally on sequential basis.
Under manufacturing category, Chemical products remained unchanged, while food products declined at 7.54% from 8.01% of previous month and that of Metal Products stood at -3.31%.
Meanwhile, wholesale inflation in fuel & power declined further, at a negative 6.14% as against negative 4.83% of April 2016.
