7th Pay Commission: The central government on Thursday evening announced an increment of four per cent in dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR), which has now increased from 46 per cent to 50 per cent Alongside that, Centre also announced an increase in the tax exemption limit of gratuity. The central government employees don't have to pay any tax up to Rs 25 lakh gratuity. The earlier limit for the same was Rs 20 lakh.
The DA is calculated as a percentage of an employee's basic salary. Depending on inflation, it is adjusted twice a year. It is calculated on the consumer price index (CPI) and industrial average. When we calculate DA on the basis of CPI, we first determine CPI. The CPI is published by the Labour Ministry of the central government.

Cabinet has approved additional installment of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief of 4% to Central Government employees and pensioners on Thursday, March 7.
The central government announced a four per cent DA hike on Thursday evening. As per the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, if the DA reaches 50 per cent, there will also be a hike in the house rent allowance, children's education allowance, transport allowance, etc. With these hikes, the central government staff's take-home pay package will increase significantly.
