OPPO A78 5G Review: Is it worth the price?
OPPO A78 5G Review: The OPPO A78 5G smartphone is definitely among those with the best designs in this segment.
OPPO A78 5G Review: There is a huge demand for smartphones in the sub-Rs 20,000 segment. Several smartphone manufacturers keep launching new devices in this category from time to time and OPPO A78 5G is the latest entrant. Priced at Rs 18,999, the smartphone looks good and features like a 5,000mAh battery, 8GB of RAM with 128GB of storage and 50 megapixels primary camera make this device quite a value for money, at least on paper. So let's find out if is it worth the price.
OPPO A78 5G Review: Design
I have the Glowing Blue colour variant of the OPPO A78 smartphone for review. The colour looks appealing and the device, despite being in under the Rs 20,000 segment, is slim, lightweight and comfortable to hold. For those who want numbers, it weighs around 188 grams and is 7.99mm thick.
The glossy tone looks good and the device has a 3.5mm audio jack along with other essential buttons. The power button is placed on the right and doubles up as a fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner is quite responsive.
Overall, the OPPO A78 5G smartphone is definitely among those with the best designs in this segment.
OPPO A78 5G Review: Display
The OPPO A78 5G comes with a 6.5-inch LCD display and has a refresh rate of 90Hz. While the refresh rate is good, the choice of LCD display may upset some customers as most of the devices now come with AMOLED displays. The brightness of the device could have been better as one may struggle to use it under direct sunlight. But video content consumption is satisfying and dual speakers are loud enough.
Oppo A78 5G Review: Performance
The OPPO A78 5G comes with MediaTek's Dimensity 700 chipset and provides satisfying performance. You will feel that loading multiple apps take some time every now and then but it won't be painfully slow. The phone is 5G enabled and I used Jio 5G services on the device.
The smartphone comes with Android 13-based ColorOS 13, just like OPPO Reno 8T 5G which we reviewed recently. It has several bloatware and makes the user experience cluttered.
OPPO A78 5G Review: Battery and charging
The OPPO A78 5G comes with a 5,000mAh battery and supports 33W SuperVOOC fast charging. The charger will take around 80 minutes to take the battery from zero to 100 per cent. Even when used excessively, the battery lasted for more than a day.
OPPO A78 5G Review: Camera
The OPPO A78 5G comes with a double camera setup with 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth shooter. While the camera performed well in daylight, it struggled to produce good-quality images in low light. The OPPO A78 5G has a dedicated night mode but frankly, it won't help you much either.
For selfies, it has a waterdrop-style notch housing a 16MP front camera. The front camera manages to click some good photos but the skin tone in most of the photos is not natural.
OPPO A78 5G Review: Verdict
The Oppo A78 5G has good looks and battery performance is impressive. If you are not much into clicking images and gaming, this smartphone can be a good value for money.
