WhatsApp’s green verification badges to turn blue? Here is how it will benefit users
This consistency in verification badges will assist users in easily recognising the verified account across different meta-run services, which will ultimately elevate brand recognition.
Following Facebook and Instagram’s suite, the instant messaging app, WhatsApp is going to get a ‘blue tick verification’. Ditching the green mark, the meta-owned social media site is slated to replace it with the blue mark for verified businesses. A report suggests that to bring uniformity into the Meta-owned platforms, the blue verification badge will be brought into practice. This change is currently experienced by a few users who have installed the latest WhatsApp beta for Android from the Google Play Store.
This consistency in verification badges will assist users in easily recognising the verified account across different meta-run services, which will ultimately elevate brand recognition. The report adds, “Thanks to the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.14.18 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered that WhatsApp is rolling out a feature to show a blue checkmark for verified channels and businesses!”
The blue badge, as the report points out, emphasizes ‘authenticity’, simultaneously reassuring users that they are interacting with a verified channel or business. The replacement seeks to enhance user trust when engaging with official accounts, doing away with the risk of impersonation.
In other news, WhatsApp is also planning to introduce a new feature for channels. According to a previous report, the new feature will let channel owners forward messages and media directly from their personal chats, thus making the process of maintaining channels easy by cutting down multiple steps required earlier.
Along with this, WhatsApp is looking to introduce a new In-App Dialer feature, which will allow users to place calls via WhatsApp Messenger. Earlier, placing calls to unsaved contacts has been a bit complicated since users needed to save the contact or initiate a chat before being able to make a call. The in-app dialer’s introduction is supposed to fix this issue, by easing the process of making calls to unsaved contact numbers.
