Tech Trends 2020: Technology is changing fast and 2020 promises to be as exciting as 2019 was. Some fantastic 'leaks' have already happened and official announcements will probably follow soon. In 2019, we saw smartphone makers trying to come up with better screen-to-body ratio which led to the usage of pop-up camera modules in mid-range and premium segments. Others opted for punch-hole design to achieve the same. In some good news for those eyeing affordable smartphones in 2020, we should expect this design element to be extended to the budget category as well.
Then, there are of course the foldable displays, which made their debut last year on Huawei Mate X and Samsung Galaxy Fold. While the display helped companies change the form factor of the smartphones, the devices looked more like prototypes and there is a lot of work still needed there. The biggest challenge remains bringing down the cost of these devices.
Motorola Razr should arrive in India in the first half of 2020, Samsung is working on Galaxy Fold 2 and Xiaomi has also teased its foldable smartphone. LG dropped its dual screen smartphone in the last week of 2019 to offer a foldable experience at affordable price point.

There is no doubt that cameras on smartphones will continue to improve with Xiaomi set to bring 108-megapixel lens on Mi Note 10. However, this could be the limit in terms of megapixels while you could expect the number of lenses to increase from three to four or five.
At the same time, you can expect all the premium or flagship-level smartphones to move from 60Hz refresh rate to 90Hz display, some even jumping to 120Hz. This will help users get a better gaming experience.
Lastly, you should be excited about bigger batteries and their improved life. Last year, 4000mAh had become the new normal and this year, you should expect it to increase further. Realme had introduced 50W fast charging on Realme X2 Pro and the same is likely to be adopted by other brands. Getting a fast charger inside the box will also be a common practice.
