Jio Phone vs Jio Phone 2: Check price, specs and features

Reliance Industries (RIL) Chairman & Managing Director Mukesh Ambani today took the telecom sector by storm again at the 41st Annual General Meeting, as his daughter Isha Ambani announced the launch of JioPhone 2. JioPhone 2 will be available at an introductory price of Rs 2,999. Targetting 100 million JioPhone users in the ‘shortest possible time’, Mukesh Ambani said “We have more than 25 million JioPhone users in India. We are now taking the Jio Phone to the next level, with added capabilities and functionalities.” 
 
The registration for JioPhone 2 will start on August 15. Both the phones will be available side by side, but the new version will be a high-end model with a horizontal screen viewing experience and a full keypad, along with other features. 
 
While announcing the JioPhone last year at Rs 1500, the company said the amount will be refunded to the customers after three years when they return the phone. 
 
Jio Phone 2 is priced at Rs 2,999 but the amount will not be refunded. The company has, however, introduced a new Jio Monsoon Hungama offer under which buyers can replace their older JioPhone for a new JioPhone 2 for Rs 501.

An official statement said, "With this, Reliance Jio has reduced the effective entry cost of the JioPhone from Rs 1500 to as low as Rs 501".   

JioPhone (Classic) 

 
The old JioPhone runs on KAI OS HTML5-based Firefox OS, featuring 4g support along with connectivity options of 3G, 4G, Wifi, NFC Bluetooth capabilities, besides 4GB internal storage. Powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor core SPRD 9820A/QC8905 Processor. JioPhone runs on 512MB of RAM and storage can be expanded to 128 GB via a microSD card. JioPhone has a 2 megapixel rear Camera and 0.3 megapixel front Camera.

JioPhone 2 
 

The new JioPhone 2 comes with a QWERTY keypad along with a four-way navigation pad along with incremental specifications upgrade. With the same operating system KaiOS, the new phone features 512MB of RAM and 4GB of ROM, supporting SD card for expandable storage up to 128GB. It has a 2.4QVGA display and boasts of 2-megapixel rear camera and VGA front-facing camera.

JioPhone also supports dual-SIM, LTE, VoLTE, and VoWi-Fi, and in terms of connectivity, it will support FM, Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi and NFC, besides providing smart feature like Facebook, YouTube and WhatsApp.
