WhatsApp privacy policy update: After facing the wrath of millions of its users across the globe due to 'confusing' privacy policy, Facebook-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp recently announced that it will show an in-app alert soon to help users understand it better. The messaging platform also earlier revealed that users must understand and accept the privacy policy by May 15 else they will lose access to their account.
As we inch closer to May 15th, WhatsApp is now sending reminders regarding the new terms and conditions. A few days ago, some users got pop-up messages just after launch the app. The pop-up message is to remind users of its new terms and privacy policy. In addition, WhatsApp has given the implication of not accepting the new terms, the gizchina reported. The messaging platform will not delete your account, but users won't get full functionality of WhatsApp until they accept.
The Facebook-owned messaging platform has already clarified that the personal chats and information of users will remain end to end encrypted. The company said that while that will remain unchanged, it is making it easier for users to chat with businesses.
WhatsApp said: "As a reminder, we’re building new ways to chat or shop with a business on WhatsApp that are entirely optional…Personal messages will always be end-to-end encrypted, so WhatsApp can’t read or listen to them. In the coming weeks, we’ll display a banner in WhatsApp providing more information that people can read at their own pace.
"We’ve also included more information to try and address concerns we’re hearing. Eventually, we’ll start reminding people to review and accept these updates to keep using WhatsApp,” the company had said in its blog post.
