However, there is a big relief for the users of this app as the company has confirmed that the users who do not accept the privacy policy will no longer lose features, as announced earlier.
According to a BGR report, there have been several controversies around WhatsApp surrounding its newly updated privacy policy. This privacy policy came into effect on May 15, 2021 after months of controversies around it. It has also been reminding the users to accept the privacy policy update. Previously, WhatsApp has also said that users who fail to accept the policy in the long run will eventually lose access to several key functionalities.
Last week, WhatsApp has received a warning from the government of India to withdraw its newly updated privacy policy. The messaging app has now responded to the Indian government stating that they stand by the policy and also highlighted that all chats are secure. In an official statement to BGR India, a WhatsApp spokesperson said, "We have responded to the Government of India’s letter and assured them that the privacy of users remains our highest priority." It was also added that the recent update in the privacy policy will not change the privacy of people’s personal messages. Instead, it will provide additional information about how people can interact with businesses if they choose to do so.
It was also assured that the users who will not accept the privacy policy will no longer lose features. The secure messaging platform stated, "We will not limit the functionality of how WhatsApp works in the coming weeks. Instead, we will continue to remind users from time to time about the update as well as when people choose to use relevant optional features, like communicating with a business that is receiving support from Facebook."
