The cyclone storm Tauktae has already wreaked havoc on the western coast of India. It has already created a massacre in Gujarat, Goa, Maharashtra, Daman and Diu, Karnataka, and Kerala. And now it is moving towards other parts of India. Along with people, land properties, and houses, automobiles are also getting damaged.
After Tsunami, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) had asked insurance companies to streamline the claim-settlement processes due to such natural calamities. So, now there are motor insurance policies that can be claimed in such extreme situations. If your vehicles got damaged during Tauktae, then this time you can ask for claims without much hassle. To do this, you need to follow few steps to file the claim with the insurance company.

The insurance companies claim to offer coverage for any loss or damage is done to the vehicle insured by them. Here is the list of calamities that are covered by the insurance companies; the cases of natural calamities for which the loss and damage of the vehicle are covered by most of the insurance companies are fire, explosion, self-ignition or lightning, earthquake, flood, typhoon, hurricane, storm, tempest, inundation, cyclone, hailstorm, frost, burglary, housebreaking or theft, landslide, and rockslide. It also includes damages due to riots and strikes, accidents by external means, terrorist activity, whilst in transit by road, rail, inland waterway, lifts, elevator, or air.
For the recent cyclone that has affected many places in India, one can claim under motor insurance for the car getting washed away or damage to the engine due to heavy floods, or serious damage to the car body mostly due to tree fall, etc., or damage to windshield due to some other object strike in case of an earthquake, floods.
Initially, the customer will have to call the insurance company on its toll-free number and will have to share the details of the damage. Do this within a month’s time for any complications ahead. Also, the customer will have to share the relevant documents with the insurance company. Try to click as many pictures or make videos of your damaged vehicle. The policyholder will have to submit the damaged picture of his vehicle.
For such situations, the companies have associated with local garages to analyse the situation in detail. Once the customer requests the claim, the company will connect with the garage of that area and will ask to make a visit and inspect the vehicle. After the thorough examination, the garage will share its detailed report of the estimated costs of repairs with the company. Depending on the insurance cover purchased by the policyholder, the company will pay the claim.
