Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: Am I eligible for PMAY? What is the last date to apply for it?

Types of housing schemes under PMAY
The PMAY programme mainly targets the economically weaker sections (EWS), lower-income groups (LIG), and middle-income groups (MIG) in both urban and rural areas.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G): This programme aims to provide affordable and accessible housing units to eligible beneficiaries in rural areas across the country.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U): This programme aims to focus on urban areas in India, including 4,331 towns and cities.
PMAY eligibility
A number of factors are to be considered for the eligibility of the programme.
1. The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
2. He/She must not own a permanent house in their name or in the name of any family member.
3. The applicant's annual income must not exceed the decided limit for different categories:
- The income of those belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) must be upto Rs 3 lakh per annum.
- The income of those belonging to the Lower Income Group (LIG) must be between Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh per annum.
- The income of those belonging to the Middle Income Group (MIG-1) must be between Rs 6 lakh to INR 12 lakh per annum.
- The income of those belonging to the Middle Income Group (MIG-2) must be between Rs 12 lakh to Rs 18 lakh per annum.
4. The applicant must not have received any type of governmental housing benefits.
PMAY: Last date to apply
While the previous deadline to apply for the scheme was March 31, 2023. However, recently the government extended the deadline for PMAY-U until December 31, 2024.
How to apply for the PMAY programme?
To apply for the scheme, applicants can do it online by visiting the official PMAY portal. After entering the required details, they can submit the form to close their application.
