The government-backed National Pension System (NPS) is a voluntary retirement scheme that facilitates savings and secures income post-retirement. An employee can subscribe to the NPS with a minimum monthly contribution of Rs 500. The NPS account balance depends on two elements: the annual contributions made by an individual and the income generated from investing 40% of the maturity amount in annuities. While a printed Statement of Transaction (SOT) for the NPS account is sent to the subscribers once every year, they can also check it regularly online anytime they need.
