Sovereign Gold Bonds:
Sovereign Gold Bonds are issued by the RBI on behalf of the government. Gold bonds are also a substitute to physical gold. SGBs bonds are denoted by 999 purities. The bonds are sold through banks (except small finance banks and payment banks), Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL), designated post offices, and recognised stock exchanges viz National Stock Exchange of India Limited and BSE.
The bonds are denominated in multiples of gram(s) of gold with a basic unit of 1 gram. The tenor of the bond is for a period of 8 years with exit option after 5th year to be exercised on the next interest payment dates. The government also offers 2.50 per cent return yearly till the maturity.
National Pension Scheme (NPS):
The National Pension Scheme (NPS) is a government-back investment cum pension scheme. With NPS, one can voluntary contributions to retirement savings. One can open two types of accounts under NPS: Tier 1 Account and Tier 2 Account. This scheme will provide adequate retirement income to every citizen of India.

ETFs can be bought and sold continuously at market prices. You can exit a gold ETF when you want—there is no lock-in period.
