ICICI Bank ATM Safety Tips: Yes, all those people who are using ICICI Bank ATM debit cards and credit cards should do one thing for sure - be extra careful while withdrawing cash or doing other transactions as there may be thieves around you who are looking to steal your money. ICICI Bank has provided certain tips that will ensure your money remains safe in your bank account. Your ATM debit or credit card is susceptible to threats like card cloning and skimming from fraudsters. Despite the cards having EMV chips which were considered extremely safe against such threats, the recent cases where at least 25 ICICI Bank account holders lost money because of skimming point to the sophistication with which the frauds are being conducted.
Skimming is a method used by fraudsters to capture your personal or account information from your debit card or credit card.
While the banks have to devise ways to deal with such bank frauds, the least that the account holders can do is be cautious. Here are some tips for the ICICI Bank account holders to follow while carrying out transactions at the bank ATMs.
-- Memorise your PIN. Do not write it down anywhere and certainly never on the card itself
-- Your card is for your own personal use. Do not share your PIN or card with anyone, not even your friends or family
-- Hide the keypad while entering your pin. Shoulder surfers can peep and find out your PIN as you enter it. So stand close to the ATM machine and use your body and hand to shield the keypad as you enter the PIN
-- Do not take help from strangers for using the ATM card or handling your cash
-- Press the 'Cancel' key before moving away from the ATM. Remember to take your card and transaction slip with you
If you take transaction slip, shred it immediately after use
-- If your ATM card is lost or stolen, report it to your card-issuing bank immediately. Any claim for your loss for the loss could be made only if the loss is reported immediately
-- When you deposit a cheque or card into your ATM, check the credit entry in your account after a couple of days. If there is any discrepancy, report it to your bank
-- If your card gets stuck in the ATM, or if cash is not dispensed after you have keyed in a transaction, call your bank immediately
-- If you have any complaint about your bank ATM Debit card and credit card transactions at a bank ATM, you must take it up with the bank that issued the card to you
