Zee Business’ Sameer Dixit has a detailed report.
All four-wheeler owners will now have to put FASTag stickers on their vehicles or they could end up double the toll tax on all NHAI highways. All those who have still not taken the FASTag should immediately do it avoid any hit on their pockets.
Why 15 February has been put as a deadline?
The reason behind putting a deadline of 15 February is because the government had on previous occasions has extended the deadline. One such deadline was 1 January 2021, Dixit said. The government extended the deadline as it acknowledged that certain technical issues still needed to be ironed out.
According to the government all such issues have now been resolved. The government was of the view that 85 per cent people have already installed the FASTag and now there will be no further extension of the deadline.
How to apply for FASTag?
FASTag can be taken from any bank. You can also buy it through various apps like Paytm. The cost of the FASTag is dependent upon the bank of Paytm giving this service. But, the tentative price of FASTag is around Rs 500, with which there is some amount that is already available. There is also some security deposit component which will be refunded once you surrender it.
The vehicles owners can also buy it from kiosks which are now present at various highways. These kiosks are manned by the employees of the banks or Paytm.
