If you have just lost money from your bank account through bank ATM or debit card, credit card fraud, then you must do this fast to get it back. This happens due to unauthorised transactions. These are transactions initiated by hackers or thieves. Unauthorised transactions are those transactions that are not initiated by the account holder and every bank gives its customers several modes to block transactions on suspicion of bank fraud or unauthorised transactions.
For instance, ICICI Bank has unveiled a number of things that its account holders should do, including being more vigilant, as many bank fraud cases have emerged. In fact, at least 9 ICICI Bank account holders lost a substantial amount of money because of the "card skimming" activity according to the bank's statement given to Zee Business.
The most basic safety feature - Bank account holders should know that while they generally get a bank notification immediately after a transaction is completed in his/her account, it is still advised that they carry out a periodic check of their accounts.
In case of bank fraud or even a suspicion of bank fraud or loss of your credit or debit card, inform the bank imemdiately. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines, you will be entitled to compensation from the bank immediately after you come to know about the fraud.
Please ensure you report any unauthorised transaction immediately. The longer the time taken to notify the Bank, the higher will be the risk of loss to you and to the bank. If you delay reporting, you may not get your money back.
How to report bank debit card or credit card unauthorised transactions?
You should immediately intimate the bank to block your cards to prevent any further damage. You can do this in a number of ways.
-- Blocking your card through internet banking:
* Click on ‘Customer Services’ Tab and then ‘Service Requests’
* For blocking Debit Card, select ‘More’ under ‘Bank Accounts’
* Under ‘ATM/ Debit Card Related’, select ‘Block Debit / ATM Card’
* Select your debit card, reason and click on submit to block the card
-- For blocking Credit Card
* Select ‘More’ under ‘Credit Card’
* Under Credit Card Dispatch Related, select ‘Block Credit Card’
* Select your credit card and click on submit to block the card.
-- How to block Prepaid Cards:
* To block the prepaid card, kindly call Customer Care on 1800 2662.
* Or click on the link - https://inrprepaid.icicibank.com/customer/login.jsp - to visit ICICI Bank Prepaid Card self-care portal to login
* Visit change card status tab to block the card.
To report unauthorised prepaid card transactions, please keep the following details handy
-- Customer ID
-- Account number
-- Transaction date
-- Transaction amount
-- Type of transaction e.g. NEFT/ RTGS
