Beware of online hackers! Avoid these 7 acts to keep your money safe online

The Internet has spread like a web across the globe. No one spares his/her phone for even a minute, as it has become our habit to scroll websites or content online. We have become addicted to using the internet for several purposes like social media, online content, games, entertainment, videos and what not. Though it is positive up to an extent as it created many new business prospects jobs in different industries. But the growing use of internet and smartphone has posed a risk to our privacy, which can victimize us anytime.  

Internet is a virtual world full of positive and negative aspects. You may get something to learn or get entertained. The growing use of smartphone and technology has made us dependent on online banking, using mobile wallets and other important applications. But if you are careless, you may also become a victim of online frauds, spams and hacking. However, it is easy to remain safe, keeping in mind a few dont's: 

1. Sharing private information: Avoid sharing your personal information like, passwords, account balances, address, location, family details, pins or any personal detail, which can make you fall a victim of online hacking. 

2. Using public wifi and PCs: Public wifi and PCs are always vulnerable to risks and hacking threats. These are open and publicly accessible, which can be used as a tool to attack people by hackers. One should avoid using banking and social media apps on public wifi and systems. 

3. Handing over your phone to someone: One should avoid giving his/her smartphone to a stranger. You never know what could be his/her intentions, so always keep your phone protected with a password or pattern lock and make sure no one uses it without your permission. 

4. Using third-party applications: Avoid using a third party, untrusted applications on phone. Do not download applications from authorised play stores like Google Play Store (android phone) or iOS app store (Apple iPhone) etc. 

5. Surfing untrusted websites: Untrusted websites and spam links can be a problem. Never use unsafe links or illegal websites at these are usually a trap for users.

6. Replying to spam SMS or emails: Nowadays, people get spam emails and SMS on phone. These emails or SMS usually make false claims and commitments, asking for personal details in exchange for prizes and rewards. One should ignore or complain against such odd messages. 

7. Play fake/spam contests online: Lots of hoax and fraud websites are there which organise online contests. These are usually fake promises and fraudulent websites, which lure users to share their personal details for prize money.
