Income Tax return filing deadline EXTENDED - Follow these steps to file ITR online
An income tax return (ITR) is a form filled by taxpayers to report his/her annual income. It can also be filled in the absence of income. Recently, the government has extended the due date of filing income tax returns for Assessment Year 2021-22 by two months that is till September 30 from July 31, 2021.

Recently, the government has extended the due date of filing income tax returns for Assessment Year 2021-22 by two months that is till September 30 from July 31, 2021.
The ITR filing deadline has also been extended for companies by a month that is till November 30. The due dates have been extended in order to provide relief to taxpayers considering the coronavirus pandemic.

Taxpayers are provided with the electronic filing (e-filing) facility by the Income Tax Department. Here are the steps involved in the e-filing of income tax return:
Step 1: Visit the Income Tax e-Filing portal at www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
Step 2: Login to e-Filing portal by entering user ID (PAN), Password, Captcha code and click on 'Login'.
Step 3: Next, click on the 'e-File' menu and then tap on the 'Income Tax Return' link.
Step 4: On the income tax return page, PAN will be auto-populated. You will have to select 'Assessment Year', 'ITR Form Number', 'Filing Type' as 'Original/Revised Return' and 'Submission Mode' as 'Prepare and Submit Online'.
Step 5: After this click on 'Continue'.
Step 6: Read the instructions carefully and fill all the applicable and mandatory fields of the online ITR Form.
Step 7: Choose the appropriate verification option in the 'Taxes Paid and Verification' tab.
Step 8: Click on the 'Preview and Submit' button and verify all the data entered in the ITR.
Step 9: 'Submit' the ITR form.
