Top Gainers & Losers: Hindalco, Nestle among blue chips rising the most; NTPC under pressure

Top Gainers and Losers: Indian equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty ended yet another volatile session on Friday in the green — rising for a second straight day, propped up by buying interest in financial and metal shares amid strength in global equities. The Sensex closed with a gain of 355.1 points or 0.6 per cent at 57,989.9 and the Nifty added 114.5 points or 0.7 per cent to settle at 17,100.

In the Nifty50 basket, HCL Tech, Hindalco, UltraCement, JSW Steel and UPL were among the top gainers. On the other hand, Eicher Motors, NTPC, Maruti Suzuki, ITC and PowerGrid were among the top losers. Click here to get all the stock market action of March 17

Here are some of the blue-chip stocks that moved the most:

Hindalco 

Hindalco shares rose 2.9 per cent to end at Rs 396.3 apiece on NSE.

Motilal Oswal Financial Services has a ‘buy’ call on Hindalco with a target of Rs 570 apiece, implying upside potential of 43.8 per cent.

The brokerage is confident about the company’s growth in the long term.

Nestle India

Food and beverage company Nestle India's shares gained 2.3 per cent to close at Rs 18,869.4 apiece on the bourse.

UBS has a 'buy' rating on Nestle India with a target price of Rs Rs 23,000 apiece (21.9 per cent upside).

According to the brokerage, Nestle India’s strong brand equity/leadership, focus on accelerating growth in rural markets, product innovation and increased capital expenditure will drive its growth.

NTPC

Power generation company NTPC's stock declined 1.8 per cent to end at Rs 176.4 apiece.

Citi has maintained a ‘buy’ call on NTPC with a target price of Rs 202 apiece (14.5 per cent upside).
 
Jefferies has also has a ‘buy’ on the power generation company with a target of Rs 195 apiece.
