Stock exchanges BSE and NSE will remain closed on October 2 for Gandhi Jayanti and October 24 for Dussehra. Will the commodities market also observe holidays on these days?
Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed for both the morning and evening sessions on October 2, and only for the morning session on October 24, according to its website, MCXIndia.com. MCX conducts morning sessions from 9 am to 5 pm and evening sessions from 5 pm to 11:30/11:55 pm.
Stock market holidays in November 2023
Similarly, the equity market will observe two holidays in November. These are: Diwali and Guru Nanak Jayanti.
- Diwali Balipratipada: Tuesday, November 14
- Guru Nanak Jayanti: Monday, November 27
The exchanges will conduct a special, one-hour-long ‘muhurat’ trading session on November 12. The exchanges are yet to announce the schedule of muhurat trading this year.

Bourses BSE and NSE hold a special session to mark the festival of Diwali. This special session each year celebrates the onset of a New Year as per the Vikram Samvat or Vikrami calendar, which is about 56-57 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar, Many traders believe that gains made this session bring prosperity and wealth during the course of the year ahead.
