RBI Bonds
For better returns, you can invest in floating rate savings bonds.
These are also called RBI bonds.
Being a floating rate bond, the interest on it does not remain the same throughout its tenure.
The interest on this bond is determined every six months (July 1 and January 1).
Its interest is decided according to the National Savings Certificate (NSC).
Bond holders get 35 basis points more interest for the respective half years than the interest on NSC on July and January 1.
For the current half year, interest is being given on NSC at the rate of 7.7 per cent, whereas on RBI bonds, it is 8.5 per cent.
VPF
If you are employed, then you can choose the option of Voluntary Provident Fund (VPF) for investment.
The best thing about VPF is that the government gives the same interest as is available on the EPF account.
At present, interest is being given on it at the rate of 8.15 per cent.
If the employee wishes, they can also contribute up to 100 per cent of the basic salary in VPF.
The lock in period is five years.
In VPF, you get the benefit of tax exemption under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act.
In this fund, you can claim tax exemption up to Rs 1.50 lakh in a financial year.
SIP
Today, SIP is included among the better investment options.
Since it is market linked, there is no guarantee of fixed interest in it.
But experts consider an average return of 12 percent in long term SIP.
In such a situation, SIP may be very helpful for you in accumulating capital.
The longer you invest in it, the bigger the capital you may create.
