As many as 66.94 lakh shares changed hands on the bourse in Thursday's session, in contrast to a daily average of 6.2 lakh shares in the past two weeks, according to provisional exchange data. Coal India shares finished 7.07 per cent or Rs 18.1 higher at Rs 274 apiece on NSE. On September 1, the Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) firm reported a 13.2 per cent Year-on-Year rise in its coal production in August 2023 at 52.3 million tonnes (MT).
In the ongoing financial year (FY24), the company has produced 281.5 MT of the mineral, registering an 11 per cent growth compared to the same period last fiscal, according to a Coal India statement.
Coal India dividend yield
Coal India tops the list among the top dividend-yield paying stocks, as per Religare Broking's latest report. At the current market price, the coal miner has given a dividend yield of 10.5 per cent with FY22 DPS at Rs 17 and FY23 DPS at Rs 24.3.

Coal India's stock has risen nearly 15 per cent in the last 12 months. In comparison, the headline index Nifty 50 has rallied over 11 per cent.
