Muhurat Trading 2021 Highlights: Nifty, Sensex close in green; auto stocks gain

Muhurat trading is the auspicious one-hour trading session conducted by leading stock exchanges—Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE)— on the occasion of Diwali. Diwali Muhurat Trading is a symbolic and old ritual that has been retained and observed for ages by the trading community. As Diwali also marks the beginning of the New Year, it is believed that muhurat trading on this day brings wealth and prosperity throughout the year.

Last year, the special Muhurat trading session was held on November 14. This year, the BSE and NSE will conduct auspicious trading for one hour on November 4, 2021.

Diwali Muhurat Trading 2021 schedule & Timings: 

Muhurat Trading Session: 6:15 pm-7:15 pm 

Pre-open Session: 6:00 pm-6:15 pm 

Closing Session: 7:25 pm -7:35 pm 

Call Auction: 6.20 pm to 7:05 pm.   

Block Deal Session: 5.45 pm till 6 pm

As per exchanges, all trades executed in the Diwali Muhurat trading session would result in settlement obligations. The session would mark the advent of Samvat 2078, which starts on Diwali.

7:15 pm: The Indian Share market opened in the green and closed on a positive note too as Nifty, Sensex closed with loss of only a few points. Both indices closed with nearly 0.50% gains. Nifty settled for  17,916.80, up 87.60 or 0.49%, while Sensex closed with nearly 300 points gain at 60,067.62, up 295.70 or 0.49% on Diwali Muhurat Trading 2021.

6: 40 pm: "After a great year for equity markets, investors are looking forward to markets continue rising though not at the same pace. Global headwinds in the form of rising inflation and withdrawal of monetary stimulus may impact the momentum, but strength in Indian macros and improving micros may help offset these. Investors need to conduct portfolio review, asset allocation review, and raise the quality of stocks held in their portfolio," Dhiraj Relli, MD & CEO, HDFC Securities on today’s Muhurat Trading session.

6.20 pm: Auto shares outperformed in the open as Eicher Motors and Tata Motors became top Nifty toppers. Bank Nifty started at 39,669.10, with gains of over 250 points on Muhurat Trading day

6:15 PM: Nifty and Sensex both gained over 0.50% in the open for auspicious one-hour trading session today. Nifty opened at 17,935.05, while Sensex at 60,207.97 for Diwali trading. On Muhurat Day trading, Nifty opened close to 18,000, while Sensex was above 16,200. Nifty gained 104.00 points or 0.58% to open at 17,935.05. Sensex  opened at 60,207.97, and was rading at 60,145.22, up 373.30 points or 0.62%.

6:08 PM: Sensex opens above 16,200. In Muhurat trading, S&P BSE Sensex opend with gains of ove 436.05 or 0.73% at 60,207.97. 

6:00 PM: Sensex was up nearly 600 points in the pre-open with 29 shares adavncing on 30-share Sensex

4:50PM: Investors should expect only modest returns for the coming Samvat. It would be safe to remain invested in high-quality stocks in performing sectors like private sector banking; leading names in the mortgage, fintech and financial services; IT and construction-related segments- Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services.

4.30 pm: "In Samvat 2078, markets may not maintain the same pace and see some profit booking at higher levels. However, we expect the sector and stock specific action to continue," Prem Prakash, CEO CapitalVia Global Research Limited
