Indian Railways News: The Ministry of Railways has granted the catering order of all special trains in the country to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), in addition to more than 450 Mail and Express trains already served by the company. In other words, the development means IRCTC, the only firm authorised by the Indian Railways to offer online railway ticket booking services in the country and manage food services onboard trains, will get additional catering business on special Indian Railways coaches.
The action by the railways ministry comes in the backdrop of an incident in a private coach stationed near the Madurai railway station in Tamil Nadu last month that claimed the lives of at least nine passengers and left several others injured.
