Big feat for Indian Railways' Shramik Special trains!
Shramik Special Trains: Indian Railways has crossed the milestone of transporting a total of more than one million passengers( 10 lacs) to their home states through Shramik Special trains in less than 15 days.
Shramik Special Trains: Indian Railways has crossed the milestone of transporting a total of more than one million passengers( 10 lacs) to their home states through Shramik Special trains in less than 15 days. The Ministry of Railways announced the achievement in a written press statement today. Indian Railways operate 800 Shramik Special trains till 14th May, 2020 across the country. Passengers are being given free meals and water during the entire journey. In this Shramik Special trains, 85 per cent of the train ticket fare being subsidised by the Indian Railways while 15 per cent is either given by the state government of by the passenger himself (depending upon the policy of the concerned state government).
Announcing about the feat achieved by the Shramik Special trains, the Indian Railways said, "As on 14th May 2020, a total of 800 Shramik Special trains have been operationalized from various states across the country. More than 10 Lacs (1 million) passengers have reached their home State. Trains being run by Railways only after concurrence is given both by the State which is sending the passengers and the State which is receiving them." Indian Railways went on to add that those 800 trains were terminated in various states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Mizoram, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal.

Subsequent to the Ministry of Home Affairs order regarding the movement of migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places by special trains, Indian Railways had decided to operate “Shramik Special” trains. Proper screening of passengers is ensured before boarding the train. During the journey, passengers are given free meals and water.
The Indian Railways had shut down its operations after the announcement of the lockdown in India by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But, after sensing the problems of the various state labourers stranded in other states, it began Shramik Special train services to transport those labourers to their native states.
