Aadhaar Related Queries Helpline Number: 1947! The year India got her independence. Now, this number has another significance. 1947 is the toll-free Aadhaar helpline number. One can dial this number to get all answers to Aadhaar related queries.

Recently, the Aadhaar has tweeted from its official Twitter handle regarding its toll-free helpline number. The tweet said, "Connect with #AadhaarHelpline to get answers to all your Aadhaar related queries, place a call on our toll-free helpline 1947 or write to us at help@uidai.gov.in."

It must be noted that the Aadhaar is a verifiable 12-digit identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to the residents of India for free of cost. At present, it is one  of the most important documents to proof one's identity. 

An Aadhaar number holder must also remember that the UIDAI has introduced a service called 'Aadhaar Services on SMS' which enables Aadhaar Number holders, who do not have access to internet/resident portal/m-Aadhaar and others to use various Aadhaar services like Virtual ID generation/retrieval, Aadhaar lock/unlock and other services through SMS.

The residents can avail Aadhaar Service by sending SMS from registered Mobile to 1947. The resident can perform VID generation/retrieval, lock/unlock Aadhaar number and other services simply by sending an SMS in the given format to 1947 from their registered mobile number.

One must note that OTP authentication is a must for Aadhaar lock/unlock and Biometric lock/unlock function. However, one does not need OTP for VID generation and retrieval function. In order to get the OTP, an Aadhaar number holder will have to send SMS in the following format: 

GETOTP Last four or eight digits of the Aadhaar number, for instance GETOTP 1234 to 1947.
