Good news for the drivers! Applying for a driving licence has become much easier now. All the works at the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in Delhi will go online from today. Citizens can now apply for the driving licence, learners license and vehicle's registration certificate (RC) online now. This will make the whole process faster and more efficient and will relieve the citizens from standing in the long queues.
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Goa, and many other states already have the online facility of applying for the driving licence, but Delhi will be the first state in the country to have online RTOs. A centralised software has been built by the government to make the process of online driving license application simpler.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and state transport minister Kailash Gehlot, earlier this year has informed that all the 13 licensing officers in Delhi would have e-RTO wing along with almost 11 transport related services including learning or permanent driving licence, getting a registration certificate and others will have to be applied for on the website of the transport department.
No paper or manual application process will be accepted by the Delhi Transport Department. Further, this will also help in curbing overcrowding and corruption as the transport department will only accept electronic transaction of money.

However, those who will be unable to fill the forms or pay the fee online, due to any reasons, the state government has arranged a 'doorstep delivery service' for them. To avail this facility, the applicants have to call at 1076 and a transportation department employee would visit the applicants to get the form filled and collect the required documents and the fee.
The State government has also set up RTO help desks to assist people in filling up of the forms online at a minimal cost of Rs 60.
