Who can break Brian Lara's record of 400 runs? Virender Sehwag picks two names, Virat Kohli not there

While records keep breaking in cricket, one that has managed to stay for a while is of Brian Lara’s highest individual score in a Test inning. The former West Indies skipper scored 400 not out against England at St John’s, Antigua back in April 2004. Since then, not too many batsmen have even come close to better the feat. One of the players who was tipped to do so was former Indian opener Virender Sehwag.  

Sehwag scored two triple centuries for India - 309 against Pakistan in Multan in 2004 and 319 against South Africa in Chennai in 2008, the later being the fastest triple century in Test cricket with 300 coming up off just 278 balls. 

Now, the Delhi batsman has picked two modern day cricketers who can break Lara’s record. Surprisingly, current Indian skipper Virat Kohli, widely considered to be world’s best batsman isn’t one of them. The former cricketer, who is currently hosting his daily social media show, titled Viru ki Baithak, recently answered one of his fans' queries where he spoke about former West Indies batsman Brian Lara.  

Sehwag picked Indian and Australian opening batsmen Rohit Sharma and David Warner as his favourites to break the rare all-time record.  

"If anyone can break this record of Lara, it is David Warner and Rohit Sharma. If Rohit Sharma has one and a half days according to them and they happen, then they can break these records," he said. 

For long, Virender Sehwag was the only Indian to score a triple century in Test cricket until Karun Nair did the same against England few years back. Till date, Sehwag and Nair remain to be the only Indian players to score triple centuries for the national side.
