Vegetable prices soar due to unseasonal rains; tomato prices double, lemon, ginger rates jump 60%

The seller added that the prices of ginger and lemon have increased from Rs 100 to Rs 160, while chilly prices have soared to Rs 120 per kg, which was earlier sold at Rs 80.
On the other hand, the customers said the crops of the farmers have been ruined, and now it's pinching the common man's pocket as the prices of many essential vegetables have doubled.

A senior official of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research has said that due to unseasonal rains, hailstorms, and strong winds, the mango crop in the country has been damaged by up to 20 per cent.
Many mango growers said that there has been a heavy loss in North India.

India is a major mango-producing country, contributing about 42 per cent of the world's production.
For the past few days, unseasonal rains, hailstorms, and strong winds due to a western disturbance have affected both food grains and horticulture crops in some parts of the country.
AK Singh, Deputy Director General (Horticulture), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), said, "At first, there was no damage due to unseasonal rains, but subsequent rains and hailstorms have badly affected the mango crop. At present, we are estimating the total loss to be around 20 per cent.
