IMD issues red alert in Mumbai due to heavy rainfall; schools and colleges to remain closed

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in Mumbai due to heavy rains in the city. It also caused waterlogging on the road. The Mumbai local train was also effected due to severe rainfall.
Considering this, a holiday has been declared for all schools and colleges within the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) area.

Meanwhile, Air India has also issued a travel advisory for the passengers traveling to and from Mumbai. The airline suggests its passengers to start their journey early to the airport, as slow traffic and waterlogging may cause significant delays.

According to the BMC, the weather prediction for today at 8 AM anticipates moderate to heavy rain throughout the city and suburbs. There is also the risk of very heavy rains in isolated regions, as well as occasional gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph.
On Wednesday, the meteorological office issued an orange signal for the state, warning of severe to very heavy rainfall (115.6 to 204.4 mm) from July 26 to July 27. This notice also covers Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra's Konkan area.
