Telangana Lok Sabha Election Winners List 2024: Bharat Rashtra Samiti faces major setback, Congress leads
The political narrative in Telangana has shifted dramatically following the 2023 Assembly Elections, with the Congress assuming power in the state. This transition has emboldened the Congress party, leading to a gradual exodus of leaders from the BRS to either the Congress or the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), once a dominant force in Telangana politics, is now grappling with a significant defeat as it trails behind in all 17 constituencies of the state.
In a surprising turn, the BRS finds itself in third place in 14 out of the 17 constituencies, with only two seats, Khammam and Mahabubabad, showing it in second place, reflecting a stark contrast from its stronghold in the 2019 elections. Notably, in Hyderabad, a traditionally contested seat, the BRS is lagging at fourth place, trailing behind the AIMIM, BJP, and Congress.
The recently concluded Lok Sabha Elections in 2024 saw intense competition between the Congress and the BJP, with the former leveraging welfare schemes such as free bus rides for women, subsidized gas cylinders, and free electricity for households below the poverty line. Despite the Congress's recent victory and its brief stint in power, the BJP presented a formidable challenge.
National leaders from both parties actively campaigned in the state, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah leading the BJP's charge, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi rallied support for his party's candidates.
Exit polls hinted at a potential record-breaking performance by the BJP in Telangana, reflecting the optimism of leaders from all major parties about securing a majority of seats.
In Hyderabad, the BJP fielded Kompella Madhavi Latha against the incumbent MP and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, marking a significant challenge in a constituency known for its Muslim population and the long-standing dominance of the AIMIM. Similarly, in other constituencies like Secunderabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, and Zahirabad, the BJP strategically positioned candidates to capitalize on shifting political dynamics.
The Congress, buoyed by its success in the 2023 Assembly elections, aimed to consolidate its position in Telangana, although criticisms surfaced regarding its ticket allocation, particularly concerning the inclusion of backward classes.
Meanwhile, controversies emerged during the election campaign, notably involving Madhavi Latha from the BJP, whose actions sparked outrage after a leaked video showed her allegedly checking voter ID cards at a polling booth, particularly targeting Muslim women.
As the election results unfold, Telangana witnesses a profound transformation in its political landscape, indicating significant shifts in voter preferences and party dynamics.
