Sensex, Nifty 50 update: Markets in green, ICICI Prudential, SAIL major gainers; IDFC First Bank, Syndicate Bank in losers list

Sensex, Nifty 50 update: The benchmark indices opened today's session on a firm note. The Sensex was trading at 37,924, up 76 points or 0.20 per cent, while the Nifty 50 opened at 11,290, up 19 points or 0.17 per cent higher. Among major gainers on the indices include ICICI Prudential, SAIL, Cadila Healthcare, Sagar Cement, Bharti Infratel, Kansai Nerolac, while IDFC First Bank, Syndicate Bank, Asian Paints Syngene, and Biocon are losers.

Earlier on Wednesday, benchmark Indian indices closed with losses amid mixed cues from global equity markets. Sensex logged a modest loss of 135.09 points or 0.36% to settle at 37,847.65, while broder Nifty slipped 59.75 points or 0.53% to end at 11,271.30. Bank Nifty was 175.85 points or 0.60% down and settled at 28,952.25. 

According to Anil Singhvi, Managing Editor, Zee Business, amid positive domestic institutional investors and global markets, neutral futures and options, negative foreign institutional investors (FIIs) and sentiment cues, the short-term trend of the domestic Indian markets will be Negative today. Zee Business today advised to sell IDFC First Bank Futures at Stop loss 38 with target of 35.50, 34. 

Meanwhile on global front, Asian shares on Thursday, shrugged off a tech-fuelled rally on Wall Street while the euro hovered near two-month lows as soft economic data bolstered expectations of rate cuts in Europe, said a Reuters report, adding that Japan`s Nikkei gained 0.5% to nearly three-month highs, while Australia`s benchmark index hit a new 12-year top on Wednesday.

On Wall Street, tech companies led the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq to record highs on Wednesday after Texas Instruments Inc hinted the slowdown in semiconductor demand would not be as long as feared, Reuters added.
