Renowned TV journalist Rohit Sardana succumbs to COVID-19

Famous TV journalist Rohit Sardana succumbed to the deadly COVID-19 on Friday. Zee News Editor-in-Chief Sudhir Chaudhary informed about his untimely demise through a tweet.

The untimely and shocking demise of Rohit Sardana, who had a long association with the Zee Media, has left the media world in a state of utter shock, the Zee Media Bureau reported.

Rohit had hosted the popular 'Taal Thok Ke' show, a debate programme that discussed contemporary issues in India on Zee News.  He left Zee News to join Aaj Tak in 2017 and since then he was hosting the debate show Dangal.

He was a recipient of the 2018 Ganesh Vidyarthi Puraskar Award. He was among the most popular faces of TV news journalism in India.

Meanwhile, India reported the highest ever single-day spike with 3,86,452 fresh coronavirus infections, taking the cumulative caseload to 1,87,62,976 on Friday (April 30), as per data by the health ministry.

The country's total COVID-19 caseload has now increased to 1.87 crore (1,87,62,976), of which, 30.79 lakh (30,79,308 ) are active cases. India has also witnessed 2.08 lakh (2,08,330) coronavirus-related deaths.

India has been recording over three lakh cases every day for over a week now. India has added about 7.7 million cases to its total caseload since the end of February, when its second wave picked up steam, according to a Reuters tally. In contrast, it took India nearly six months to add the previous 7.7 million cases.

On the other hand, nearly 1.3 crore Indians registered themselves online on the government’s dedicated portal CoWin on Wednesday (April 28) for the mass vaccination drive that is set to begin on May 1.
