Railway Ministry extends service charge exemption on e-tickets till September 30
Post demonetisation, Railway Ministry had announced withdrawal of service charge on online booking of tickets for the tickets booked from November 23, 2016 to March 31, 2017.
In order to give a push to digital payments, the government has extended the exemption on railway e-tickets till September 30.
Post demonetisation, Railway Ministry had announced withdrawal of service charge on online booking of tickets for the tickets booked from November 23, 2016 to March 31, 2017.
Later on in April it was extended further till June 30th. Now, the Railway Ministry has again extended the service charge exemption by three months.

Service charges on booking train tickets online through IRCTC ranges from Rs 20 to 40 per ticket.
With this exemption, IRCTC has incurred loss of Rs 1.8 crore per day.
According to a PTI report, which quoted railways data stated that approximately an amount of Rs 184 crore has not been realized from passengers on account of service charge and service tax thereon on reserved tickets booked online from November 23, 2016 to February 28, 2017.
