It has also been informed that the booster dose policy will be discussed in the meeting. Furthermore, the need for advanced doses will also be talked in the meeting.
The Omicron variant of COVID-19 has been a cause of concern. India has recorded 213 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus across 15 states and UTs so far, out of which 90 people have recovered or migrated, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday, as per a PTI report. Delhi has recorded the maximum of 57 cases of the Omicron variant followed by Maharashtra at 54, Telangana 24, Karnataka 19, Rajasthan 18, Kerala 15 and Gujarat 14.
Coming back to the Prime Minister's review meeting, there will be discussions on children's vaccines, their preparation and early-start strategy. Also, the officials are to give details of research and results on the impact of the existing vaccines on government Omicron. There will also be a talk on what changes should be made to further intensify the second dose.
It has also been informed that after the review meeting with the Prime Minister, the Health Secretary will meet the State Secretaries. Also, some new guidelines are also expected. It is expected that it will be asked to speed up the vaccination process.
Furthermore, the Christmas and New Year events may be asked to monitor closely. The special monitoring and at least the gathering rules are to be discussed in crowded places.
The Centre has said that the new Covid variant Omicron is three times more transmissible than the Delta variant, as per an IANS report. The Centre has asked the states to review the emerging data of Covid-19 affected population, geographical spread, hospital infrastructure and its utilisation, manpower, notifying Containment Zones and the enforcement of perimeter of containment zones at the district levels. The Centre has also asked the states to formulate a strategy that can ensure the infection is contained at the local level itself before it spreads to other parts.
