G20 Summit Bali: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden shared a warm hug at the G20 Summit which began today in Indonesia's capital town Bali. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) shared photos of the meeting between the leaders of the world's largest democracy and oldest democracy on the sidelines of the summit.

Before this, PM Modi and Joe Biden had met in person in Japan for the Quad summit in May. In July, they had attended the first Leaders' Summit of I2U2 virtually. I2U2 is a quadrilateral economic forum comprising India, Israel, the UAE, and the US.

India has a strategic partnership with the United States of America. The two countries share interests in promoting global security, stability, and economic prosperity through trade, investment, and connectivity.
PM Modi was welcomed at the G20 summit by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, “PM @narendramodi arrives at the @g20org Summit. He was welcomed by President @jokowi. The Summit will witness extensive deliberations on ways to overcome important global challenges. It will also focus on ways to further sustainable development across our planet,” PMO had tweeted.

The Indian Prime Minister had also met the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, “A brief discussion at the start of the @g20org Summit with President @EmmanuelMacron,” PMO tweeted.

The G20 summit kicked off today in Bali. The Group of Twenty (G20) is the premier forum for international economic cooperation. The members of the G20 are-- Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. Each year, the presidency invites guest countries to participate. Spain is invited as a permanent guest.
The G20 brings together the world's major economies. Its members account for more than 80 per cent of the world GDP, 75 per cent of global trade, and 60 percent of the population of the planet.
The forum has met every year since 1999, with leaders meeting for an annual G20 Leaders' Summit since 2008. In addition to the Summit, ministerial meetings, sherpa meetings, working groups, and special events are organised throughout the year.
