Plastic ban: Delhi gears up for stricter action! 48 teams constituted to ensure enforcement; check fines, imprisonment for violating norms

Delhi has geared up to take strict action against the use of single-use plastic.
Surprise inspections in different areas to be conducted, 48 teams have been made by the Delhi government respectively, to ensure the enforcement of the ban.
The control room regarding plastic will receive all complaints related to the violation of the SUP ban. Complaints related to plastic ban violations will be registered here.

Units found violating the rule will face strict action. The action will include Provision for imprisonment for five years or fine Up to 1 lakh.
The infringing entity will be shut down from Monday, punitive action to be taken.
The Union government had banned single-use plastic from July 1, 2022.
An awareness campaign was conducted till 10 July, the Delhi Government had decided to give a 10 days grace period to comply with single use plastic and Delhi government has decided to be lenient and focus on creating awareness against the use of such commodities and promote their alternatives inthe 10 days period.
The banned items are earbuds, plastic sticks for balloons, flags, candy sticks, ice-cream sticks, polystyrene (thermocol), plates, cups, glasses, forks, spoons, knives, straws, trays, wrapping or packaging films around sweets boxes, invitation cards, cigarette packets, plastic or PVC banners of less than 100 microns and stirrers.
Plastic carry bags of thickness less than 75 microns are also prohibited under the Plastic Waste Management Rules. Their thickness will have to be increased to 120 microns from December 31.
Plastic wrapping material less than 50 microns in thickness and plastic sachets used for selling and storing tobacco, pan masala and gutkha are also not allowed.
