No abnormal spikes in airfares: Jayant Sinha to Zee Business

Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha in an exclusive talk with Zee Business's Alok Priyadarshi said there is no significant price hike in airfares. He said, that every spike (if any) in airfares due to grounding certain aircraft due to engine related safety concerns will soon come under control. 

Here are the edited excerpts: 
Q: About 600 planes will be grounded by end of this month. Sir, this grounding led to increase of airfares in certain routes. Can you please inform about the steps being taken by the government to control it?
It is important to note that the number of flights being grounded is just 2 percent of capacity, In addition, we are adding about 3-4 new planes, which is 2% of the capacity,  in the fleet every month. I feel this addition will create a balance between supply and demand. 

Q: The complete episode of Indigo has created a sense of security among people. While boarding a flight, almost every traveller thinks about his/her safety. Is your government coming up with any mechanism to make travellers feel that they are secured while travelling?
Safety of passengers is our first priority and on this line, we have studied the issues related to Neo engines of the planes and tried our best to rectify the problems. Travellers must have faith that the government is taking whatever steps are required to secure them while travelling.

Q: The government has a plan to disinvest Air India by December. Can you inform something about the disinvestment plan at least when few foreign players have also shown their interest in your plan? 
The process of disinvestment is under process. We stand by the given deadline.
