Nifty hits 11,400-pt mark for first time; Sensex rises 220.59 points

Stock markets have started the new week as they ended the last one - on a high! Today, Nifty has sailed past the 11,400 point mark for the first time and  Sensex has gained as much as 200 points.

The Sensex is up 220.59 points at 37,776.75, and the Nifty up 57.30 points at 11418.10. 818 shares have advanced, 177 shares declined, and 55 shares are unchanged.

All the sectoral indices are trading positive, while smallcap and midcap are also trading in line with major indices.

The Indian rupee opened marginally higher at 68.57 per dollar on Monday against 68.61 Friday.

Stocks across Asia advanced on Monday as China`s efforts to stop sharp declines in its currency and capital flight supported wider sentiment in the region, although the escalating Sino-U.S. trade conflict has capped gains.
