The government envisages broadband for all by 2022, an investment of $100 billion, 40 lakh jobs and 5G services, according to the draft of National Digital Communications Policy 2018.
To give relief to the telecom industry, the Centre plans to review the licensing and regulatory environment. This will include review of various levies and licence fees, according to the draft policy.

The government aims to enable fixed line broadband access to 50 per cent of households and start landline portability services. The policy suggests universal broadband coverage at 50 Mbps speed to every citizen and providing 1 Gbps connectivity to all gram panchayats by 2020 and 10 Gbps by 2022.
