Monsoon arrived in Mumbai as on Wednesday and heavily rained yesterday. On Tuesday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had said that monsoon onset could be declared over Mumbai from June 9, 2021, and high rain is expected in the city and its adjoining areas from Thursday, June 10, 2021. On Thursday morning, the IMD has also tweeted to inform about the rainfall in Santacruz and Colaba. The tweet said, "Santacruz 227.1 mm and Colaba reported 83.4 mm rainfall in Mumbai during 0830 IST of 09.06.20201 to 0530 IST of 10.06.2021."

IMD Mumbai Deputy Director General Dr Jayanta Sarkar said to ANI, "Monsoon has arrived in Mumbai today, normal arrival date is June 10 every year so it has arrived prior to the average arrival date."
On June 9, 2021, predicting thunderstorm, the IMD had tweeted, "Ahead of the monsoon onset, fairly widespread thunderstorm activity accompanied by frequent cloud to ground lightning is likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar during the next 2-3 days."

As per the IMD, the Southwest Monsoon is likely to advance into the remaining parts of the Arabian Sea and Maharashtra. The IMD has informed that parts of Gujarat and the remaining parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, some parts of Madhya Pradesh and East Uttar Pradesh, entire Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Bihar are also likely to experience southwestern monsoon in the next two to three days.
Odisha is very likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall between June 11 and June 12 while Chhattisgarh would probably experience the same between June 11, 2021 and June 13, 2021. Vidarbha in Maharashtra is also likely to experience heavy rainfall over the period from June 12 and June 13.
