Karnataka Municipal Election Results 2021: Counting of votes underway - Details here

Counting of votes in Hubballi-Dharwad, Kalaburagi and Belagavi city municipal corporations is underway. The polls in these three municipal corporations along with bypolls to a few other urban local bodies were held on September 3, 2021.

Elections were held for a total of 252 wards across seven urban local bodies. They include city corporations of Belagavi (58 wards), Hubballi-Dharwad (82), Kalaburagi (55), along with the Doddaballapur City Municipal Council (31), Tarikere Town Municipal Council (23), Bidar City Municipal Council (2) and Bhadravathi City Municipal Council (1), as per a report by PTI.

According to State Election Commission officials, 300 candidates are in the contest in Kalaburagi for 55 seats. In Hubballi-Dharwad 420 are contesting, and in Belagavi 519 candidates are contesting.

As per a report by ANI, until now, counting for 42 wards has been completed wherein, BJP is leading with 26 seats, while Congress scored 13 seats and 3 seats for Independent.

A total of 8,18,096 voters voted during corporation polls. The total polling percentage recorded in Hubballi-Dharwad was 53.81 per cent, while for Belagavi, and Kalaburagi corporation polls, 50.41 and 49.40 per cent were reported respectively, as per a report by ANI.

Apart from BJP, Congress, and JD(S), Aam Aadmi Party and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen have fielded their nominees. In Belagavi, Shiv Sena-Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti members have also contested as independents.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made at the counting centres as well as in the cities amid adherence to the Covid-19 protocol.
