Karnataka election 2018: In 10,000 voter cards recovery, finger points at BJP worker
After indulging in a slugfest over the recovery of 9,746 fake voter ID cards from a flat in Rajarajeshwari Nagar Assembly constituency in poll-bound Karnataka both the Congress and the BJP filed petitions to the Election Commission blaming each other of malpractice.
After indulging in a slugfest over the recovery of 9,746 fake voter ID cards from a flat in Rajarajeshwari Nagar Assembly constituency in poll-bound Karnataka both the Congress and the BJP filed petitions to the Election Commission blaming each other of malpractice.
Congress delegation led by Anand Sharma, first to reach the EC’s door, submitted a memorandum accusing the BJP of fabricating, concocting, and enacting fake midnight drama over the recovery of fake voter ID cards to impede free and fair elections.
In a midnight press briefing on Tuesday, BJP leader Prakash Javadekar had alleged that Congress candidate and sitting MLA Munirathna Naidu was behind the ‘racket’, which was ‘exposed’ by BJP worker Rakesh.
However, the Congress claimed that the flat, where the fake voter IDs were recovered, belongs to Manjula Nanjamuri, a former BJP corporator and a BJP leader from Jalahalli, a fact which the Chief Electoral Officer of Karnataka, Sanjiv Kumar has also admitted.
“The so called tenant of the flat, Rakesh is actually an adopted son of Manjula. BJP’s fake allegations can be further gauged from the fact that Rakesh also contested in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections as a BJP candidate as recently as in 2015,” Sharma said.

The BJP delegation too approached the EC in the evening, demanding countermanding of election in Rajarajeshwari constituency.
“Voter IDs are proof of voter confidence and to reinstate that, elections to Rajarajeshwari constituency must be countermanded. We’ve put forward this demand to the EC,” Union Minister Smriti Irani said after the BJP delegation met the EC.
