IPL 2020 final, MI vs DC: The stage is set for the biggest sporting finale in the recent times – the Indian Premier League final between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, scheduled for later today. One of the mentioned franchises will lift the trophy after 59 gruelling matches, but they will be a little disappointed as they will only get half the prize money than what they would have otherwise got. BCCI had reduced the prize money this year as part of its cost-cutting measures.
Last year, the purse was 32.5 crores as part of the prize money to be distributed among the winner and the runners-up. With MI winning a record fourth title, they pocketed a cool Rs 20 crore while Chennai Super Kings, the runners-up took home Rs 12.5 crore.
Earlier this year in March, when coronavirus was beginning to wreak havoc, the Indian cricket board announced that the winner and runners-up of the upcoming season will get half the amount as compared to last year. Consequently, IPL 2020 winner will get Rs 10 crore and the loser will be awarded Rs 6.25 crore.
“The financial rewards have been reworked as a part of the cost-cutting measures. The champions will get ₹10 crore instead of ₹20 crore. The runners-up will get ₹6.25 crore instead of ₹12.5 crore,” a BCCI notification was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The finances were also hit as crowd wasn’t allowed to witness the games.
Advantage Mumbai Indians
Going into the final, Mumbai Indians appear to be the stronger of two sides. Even though Delhi’s Shikhar Dhawan is second in the list of leading run-scorers in the tournament, he hasn’t found much support from others.
In contention for the Orange Cap, Dhawan has over 600 runs to his name. For Mumbai, there hasn`t been a single batsman to aggregate over 500 runs during this year, but their top three batsmen edge out Delhi`s top trio in collective scores.
The top DC trio - Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Marcus Stoinis, have aggregated 1,409 runs whereas the top MI trio - Ishan Kishan, Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav, have aggregated 1427 runs. To back this, Pollard and Pandya brothers have played some important cameos at the end.
