Indian Railways longest freight train: Indian Railways has successfully conducted the trial run of longest freight train. The train -- 'Super Vasuki', 3.5 km-long having 295 wagons and6 locos carried 27,000 tonnes of coal during the test earlier this week.
Super Vasuki's trial was conducted between Korba in Chhattisgarh and Rajnandgao in Nagpur.
The train was operated by the South East Central Railway. It left Korba at 13:50 and took 11.20 hours to cover the distance of 267 km to reach Rajnandgao.
The train which takes about four minutes to cross a station is the longest and heaviest freight train ever run by the railways, said the national transporter.
The amount of coal carried by Super Vasuki is enough to fire 3000 MW of power plant for one full day, officials said, as per the report of PTI.
The existing capacity of railway rakes is about 90 cars with 100 tonnes in each for a single journey.
The Super Vasuki was formed by bringing together five rakes of goods trains as one unit.
