How to check IRCTC refund status, ticket cancellation: IRCTC will refund your amount, even if your train is cancelled; here's how
From time-to-time the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corp (IRCTC) has introduced various facilities for making Indian Railways train ticket bookings easier for passengers, and in its latest move, the railway service provider has taken care of your refund when the PNR gets cancelled. It needs to be noted if your train ticket gets cancelled from start to end of the journey, this will lead to automatic cancellation of your PNR number. A PNR is referred as Passenger Name Record which is an unique ten digit number that is provided against every booked train ticket.
IRCTC through its Twitter account @IRCTCofficial said, “In case Train is fully cancelled from Start station to end station, PNR will be automatically cancelled. Refunds will be processed in the same account through which payment was made. For more, please log on to irctc.co.in.”

Either you book train ticket online or through offline channel, a passenger will be provided with a PNR number by Indian Railways stations. Also, a single PNR number can be provided to a maximum six passengers when a booking is made in groups.
PNR allows the Indian railways to track the name of the passenger, train number, time of booking and ticketing time limit, among other vital information.
The ticket window for Tatkal AC classes is open from 10 am to 10.30 am everyday, while for Tatkal non-AC classes the window is opened from 11 am to 11.30 am.
All kinds of ticketing agents including IRCTC agents are debarred from booking non-Tatkal tickets for 30 minutes from the opening of bookings, that is from 8 am to 8.30 am for general classes.
Reservation of a ticket can be made up to 120 days in advance.
It also needs to be noted that, a passenger can use only one login session active at one point of time.
Users will have to answer security-related questions in order to protect their personal information which is stored with IRCTC. A customers stores personal information like his name, email, mobile number on their IRCTC portal.
One-Time-Password (OTP) has been made compulsory for all net banking payment options.
The booking window will be open between 8 am to 10 pm on the website.
Now a passenger can also book ticket through IRCTC Rail Connect App.
One can download the IRCTC Rail Connect App from their Google Play Store.
Coming to PNR, in case your train is cancelled now need not worry, because you will get your refund in the account mentioned in IRCTC portal or the app.
Currently, charges for tickets being cancelled by a passenger. If a confirmed ticket is cancelled more than 48 hrs before the scheduled departure of the train, flat cancellation charges shall be deducted @ Rs.240/- for AC First Class/Executive Class, Rs.200/- for AC 2 Tier/First Class, Rs. 180 for AC 3 Tier/AC Chair car/ AC 3 Economy, Rs.120/- for Sleeper Class and Rs.60/- for Second Class. Cancellation charges are per passenger.
However, the IRCTC has not provided any information for charges in regards to train cancellation.
