How is Vice President of India elected? Explained
The Election Commission of India is the body that conducts the election for the office of the Vice President.
Vice President Election 2022: Vice President of India is the second highest constitutional office in the country. M Venkaiah Naidu is the current Vice President. He was elected to the post on August 11, 2017. His term is slated to end on August 10 this year. As per the rule, an election to fill a vacancy caused by the expiry of the term of office of the Vice-President should be completed before the expiry of the term of the incumbent Vice President. The Election Commission of India is the body that conducts the election for the office of the Vice President.

Who elects Vice President?
The Vice-President is elected by an electoral college. The electoral college has members of both Houses of Parliament -- Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The election is held in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote. The voting is held through a secret ballot.
Notably, the Vice-President of India is also the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha or the Upper House of Parliament. He is not a member of either House of Parliament or of a House of Legislature of any state.
Who can become Vice President
The person must be a citizen of India
He/she must complete 35 years of age
He/she must be qualified for election as a member of the Rajya Sabha
A person is not also eligible to contest if he/she holds any office of profit under the Central government or states
In case a vacancy arises by reasons of death, resignation or removal or otherwise, the election to fill that vacancy is held as soon as possible after the occurrence.
The candidate contesting for the post of the Vice President of India is required to be nominated by at least 20 MPs as proposers and at least 20 MPs as seconders.
The candidate is required to deposit Rs 15,000 as security.
