The police have registered a case of cheating and impersonation against two persons who allegedly duped a 42-year-old man resident of Borivali, Prashant Rajaram Dhanu, to the tune of Rs 26.40 lakh by promising him a job in Municipal Corporation.
The police have registered a case of cheating and impersonation against two persons who allegedly duped a 42-year-old man resident of Borivali, Prashant Rajaram Dhanu, to the tune of Rs 26.40 lakh by promising him a job in Municipal Corporation. The duo, who claimed to be government officials, had been luring the victim since June 2005 to shell out money for the lucrative job, making it one of the longest running scams.
According to the police, two people had met Dhanu in June 2005 through a mutual friend and the duo had promised Dhanu that they would help him get a job in the civic body.
“The duo met Dhanu several times and took as much as Rs 26.40 lakh in cash and cheques on various pretexts, claiming that they would need money to assure a government job for Dhanu. The duo also lured Dhanu by it would be easy for them to get Dhanu a government job since they were government officials. An unsuspecting Dhanu kept on giving them money,” said an officer from Borivali Police Station.

After nearly thirteen years passed and Dhanu could not get a government job, he confronted the duo. Subsequently, they began avoiding him and Dhanu finally lodged a First Information Report in the matter on Tuesday.
“We are getting more details about the accused from the bank account details in which the cash was deposited by Dhanu. No arrests have been made in the case so far,” the officer informed.
