As per a report by india.com, the railways informed that on Wednesday, Delhi will receive 244 tonnes of LMO. On Tuesday morning also, ‘Oxygen Express’ trains from Hapa in Gujarat and Durgapur in West Bengal delivered 85 tonnes and 120 tonnes of LMO to the national capital. The railways also informed that one train from Mundra in Gujarat and another from Hapa, carrying 140 tonnes and 103.6 tonnes of LMO, respectively, will reach Delhi in the early hours of Wednesday.
At a time when the citizens at the national capital are running from pillar to post for oxygen, these continuous supplies of LMO is possibly going to ease out the situation a bit. The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country has been far more devastating and gruesome than last year when the pandemic first struck the country. This time, the country is registering more than three lakh fresh infections every day and thousands of COVID-related deaths. The scarcity of oxygen and hospital beds in times of need have added to the misery of the citizens.
The national capital has also been suffering from an acute shortage of oxygen in the hospitals. It has to be noted that the total daily quota of oxygen for the city is 590 tonnes. So far, the Indian Railways has delivered around 1,585 tonnes of LMO in 103 tankers to various states.
As per ANI, on Sunday, May 2, 2021, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal informed that Oxygen Express carrying 30.86 metric tonnes (MT) of LMO left from Odisha for Delhi. Delhi received its first supply of LMO on April 27, 2021. The Oxygen Express train carried 64.55 tonnes LMO from Jindal Steel Plant in Chhattisgarh.
As per the railways, twenty-seven Oxygen Express trains have already completed their journey and six more carrying around 463 tonnes of LMO in 33 tankers are on way to their destinations.
