G20 Summit: Cavalcade rehearsals on September 2 — All you need to know about routes, traffic restrictions in New Delhi
G20 Summit: The authorities stated that if the journey cannot be avoided, then commuters must use of Delhi Metro services.
G20 Summit: To keep up with the security measures that are to be taken during the two-day G20 Summit in national capital New Delhi, the Delhi Traffic Police has released an advisory for full dress rehearsals on September 2, starting from 8:30 AM onwards. According to the report, cavalcades are scheduled to depart from various parts of Delhi to the New Delhi District.
G20 Summit: Traffic restrictions, timing, routes, roads
The cavalcade will take place between the following time intervals: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM, and 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM.
CAs per the official release, commuters can face heavier-than-normal traffic on the following routes and junctions; thus, they are advised to plan their journey accordingly on the following roads and junctions during the given time intervals:
Sardar Patel Marg – Panchsheel Marg 11 Murti
Sardar Patel Marg – Kautilya Marg R/A Teen Murti
Round-about GKP - Round-about Gol Methi
Round-about Motilal Nehru Place (MLNP) - Round-about Mansingh Road
C – Hexagon Mathura Road
Zakir Hussain Marg – Subramaniam Bharti Marg Bhairon Road—Ring Road
Round-about Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh Marg - Round-about Yashwant Place
Round-about Satya Marg/Shantipath - Round-about Kautilya Marg
Round-about Windsor Place Janpath – Kartavyapath
Barakhamba Road, Red Light Tolstoy Marg – Janpath
Round-about Claridges - Vivekanand Marg
Under Moti Bagh Flyover - Under Lodhi Flyover
Press Enclave Road – Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg Under Chirag Delhi Flyover
Joseph Tito Marg – Siri Fort Road, Shershah Road
The authorities stated that if the journey cannot be avoided, then commuters must use of Delhi Metro services.
The advisory has also suggested routes in case road journeys cannot be avoided during those hours.
For the North-South Corridor:
From Ring Road – Ashram Chowk – Sarai Kale Khan – Mahatma Gandhi Marg - IP Flyover - Mahatma Gandhi Marg - ISBT Kashmiri Gate – Ring Road – Majnu Ka Tila.
From AIIMS Chowk – Ring Road – Dhaula Kuan – Ring Road – Brar Square – Naraina Flyover – Rajouri Garden Junction – Ring Road – Punjabi Bagh Junction – Ring Road – Azad Pur Chowk.
For the East-West Corridor:
From Sun Dial/DND Flyover - Ring Road –Ashram Chowk – Moolchand Underpass – AIIMS Chowk – Ring Road – Dhaula Kuan – Ring Road – Brar Square – Naraina Flyover.
From Yudhistir Setu – Boulevard Road – Rani Jhansi Road – New Rohtak Road – Punjabi Bagh Chowk – Ring Road.
The city bus service will be largely unaffected. However, depending on the current traffic situation, they may be diverted off certain routes in the New Delhi District.
Passengers travelling towards railway stations and airports are able to use their private vehicles, three-wheeler autorickshaws, and taxis. However, they are advised to keep sufficient time in hand in case of congestion and consequent delays.
Passengers are advised to make maximum use of Metro services to avoid heavy traffic and subsequent delays, especially the Airport Express Line connecting New Delhi Station to Dwarka Sector 21 Station via Indira Gandhi International Airport T3.
Motorists are urged to be patient, follow traffic regulations and road discipline, and listen to Traffic Police officers stationed at all crossroads. People are also encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time in order to avoid difficulty.
The G20 summit will take place on September 9 and 10 in the newly-built Bharat Mandapam convention centre at Delhi's Pragati Maidan. Under India's Presidency, it is expected to draw 29 Heads of State, top officials from the European Union and invited guest countries, and 14 heads of international organisations.
